A rich and creamy copycat McDonald’s chocolate shake made with vanilla ice cream, cold milk, chocolate syrup, and vanilla extract. This easy 5-minute milkshake is thick, smooth, chocolatey, and perfect for a quick dessert or homemade fast-food treat.

  • Total Time: 5 minutes
  • Yield: 2 servings

Ingredients

  • 2 cups vanilla ice cream
  • ¾ cup cold whole milk
  • ¼ cup chocolate syrup
  • 1 tablespoon powdered sugar, optional
  • ½ teaspoon pure vanilla extract
  • 1 tablespoon heavy cream, optional
  • Whipped cream, for topping, optional
  • Extra chocolate syrup, for drizzling, optional
  • 1 maraschino cherry, optional

Instructions

  1. Add vanilla ice cream, cold milk, chocolate syrup, vanilla extract, and optional heavy cream to a blender.
  2. Blend on low for about 10 seconds, then increase the speed and blend just until smooth and creamy.
  3. Check the consistency. If the shake is too thick, add cold milk 1 tablespoon at a time and blend briefly.
  4. If the shake is too thin, add another scoop of vanilla ice cream and blend until thickened.
  5. Taste and add more chocolate syrup if desired.
  6. Pour immediately into chilled glasses.
  7. Top with whipped cream, chocolate syrup, and a maraschino cherry if desired.
  8. Serve immediately with a wide straw.

Notes

  • Use full-fat vanilla ice cream for the creamiest texture.
  • Start with less milk and add more gradually to prevent a thin shake.
  • Don’t use ice cubes because they can dilute the flavor and make the shake icy.
  • For a stronger chocolate flavor, add 1 teaspoon unsweetened cocoa powder.
  • For a chocolate malt variation, blend in 1–2 tablespoons malted milk powder.
  • The shake is best served immediately after blending.
