Ingredients
For the Seasoned Beef
- 1 pound lean ground beef
- 1 tablespoon olive oil
- 2 teaspoons chili powder
- 1 teaspoon paprika
- 1 teaspoon ground cumin
- ½ teaspoon garlic powder
- ½ teaspoon onion powder
- ½ teaspoon dried oregano
- ½ teaspoon salt
- ¼ teaspoon black pepper
- ¼ cup water
For the Bean Layer
- 1 (16-ounce) can refried beans
- 2 tablespoons water
- ½ teaspoon ground cumin (optional)
For the Cheese Layer
- 1 cup nacho cheese sauce
- 1½ cups shredded cheddar cheese
For Assembly
- 10 soft taco-size flour tortillas
- 1 cup sour cream
- Cooking spray or butter (optional, for toasting)
Instructions
- Heat olive oil in a skillet over medium heat and brown the ground beef until fully cooked. Drain excess grease if needed.
- Stir in the chili powder, paprika, cumin, garlic powder, onion powder, oregano, salt, pepper, and water. Simmer for 5 minutes.
- Warm the refried beans with water (and cumin, if using) until smooth and creamy.
- Heat the nacho cheese sauce until warm and pourable.
- Microwave the tortillas for 20–30 seconds to make them soft and flexible.
- Spread nacho cheese sauce on one tortilla and place a second tortilla on top for the signature double-layer effect.
- Spread refried beans over the center, followed by seasoned beef, shredded cheddar cheese, and sour cream.
- Fold the sides inward and roll tightly into a burrito.
- Toast seam-side down in a lightly greased skillet for 1–2 minutes per side until golden brown, if desired.
- Serve immediately with salsa, guacamole, or your favorite Mexican-inspired sides.
Notes
- Warm tortillas before assembling to prevent cracking.
- Avoid overfilling the burritos for easier rolling.
- Toasting the burritos creates a crisp exterior and seals the tortilla.
- Ground turkey or chicken can be substituted for beef.
- Add jalapeños, seasoned rice, black beans, or hot sauce for extra flavor.
- These burritos freeze well for up to 3 months, making them ideal for meal prep.
